Understanding "Special Beer"

The term "special beer" is not just a marketing name. It is a historical category that emerged at the beginning of the 20th century, notably in Belgium and Northern France. Originally, these beers were brewed to distinguish themselves from traditional Pils, using specific yeasts or longer lagering methods.

Today, in 2026, special beer encompasses limitless creativity. It can include atypical ingredients like spices, herbs, or plant extracts, like our famous Bière du Sorcier, known for its magical plant extracts and mysterious appearance.

What makes a special beer unique is also its often higher alcohol content and aromatic complexity. They are not just "drunk," they are savored. At our establishment Aux Délices du Houblon, we teach our customers to identify head, heart, and base aromas.

The expertise of our cellar is built on this fine knowledge of manufacturing processes. Each brewer we carry has a unique signature, which we are proud to present to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a "craft" beer compared to an industrial beer?

Craftsmanship is based on the rigorous selection of raw materials (malts, hops) without chemical additives, and on respected fermentation times. Unlike pasteurized industrial beers, craft beers like those from Microbrasserie La Passerelle retain all their vitality and aromatic nuances.

How to properly store special beers?

The ideal is to store them upright, in a cool place (10-15°C) and away from light. Sunlight is the worst enemy of hops! Aging beers can, however, improve over time, like a good wine.

Can you rent beer dispensers for events?

Absolutely! We offer professional dispenser rentals for weddings, birthdays, or company parties, with a wide range of 20L or 30L kegs. Contact us to reserve.

What is special about the Bière du Sorcier?

It is a "mystical" beer flavored with plant extracts (elderberry, nettle, etc.). It offers an intriguing green robe and a unique herbal taste that leaves no one indifferent.

What are the opening days of the Cave du Trèfle?

The Cave du Trèfle in Ungersheim welcomes you from Tuesday to Saturday for your purchases and personalized advice. More info on the Cave du Trèfle page.

Do you offer non-alcoholic beers?

Yes, we have a curated selection of 0.0% beers that retain the true taste of brewing thanks to new gentle dealcoholization techniques.

Is the Pêcheresse very sweet?

It is a spontaneously fermented beer (Lambic) enriched with peach juice. It offers a balance between the fruit's sweetness and the Lambic's natural acidity, making it very refreshing.

How does delivery work for professionals?

We have a dedicated logistics fleet to supply the Horeca sector (Hotels, Restaurants, Cafes) with exemplary responsiveness within 24 to 48 hours.

Do you organize beerology courses?

Definitely! Our cellar masters regularly organize tasting workshops to learn how to pair food and beers. Check our agenda.

What are the benefits of buying direct from Les Brasseries de Lill?

You benefit from "direct wholesaler" prices, expert advice, and access to limited editions not found in supermarkets.
